AIG’s global personal travel insurance and assistance business, including Travel Guard® is now part of Zurich Insurance Group.
As part of this transition, AIG in Hong Kong will cease the distribution of travel insurance via its Direct channels, Travel Agencies and Airline Partners effective 1 January 2026.

AIG in Hong Kong continues to distribute travel insurance via all other channels (AIA agents, corporate agents and brokers). 

AIG customers with an active travel insurance policy will continue to be covered and serviced in accordance with their current policy terms and conditions.

As soon as you have confirmed your travel route and destination, you should consider purchasing travel insurance. The policy must be purchased before your journey commencement (before you leave an immigration counter in Hong Kong), travel insurance purchased after you departed Hong Kong is considered invalid.

Travel annual plan covers all of your trips during the period of insurance (see policy schedule).  The trip must commence from Hong Kong and is subject to a maximum stay abroad of 90 consecutive days per journey.

Yes, Travel covers all amateur sporting activities.

Unfortunately, your medical expenses incurred after your return to Hong Kong are not covered. Under your Travel plan, we only pay for medical expenses incurred as follow-up treatment in Hong Kong if you have consulted a Legally Registered Medical Practitioner overseas for the same sickness during the insured trip.

Travel Annual Plan eligible to anyone age 70 or below on the commencement date of the policy. No age limit for Travel Single Plan. A policy may be purchased by an individual or a family for travel overseas for purpose of leisure and/or business, provided it is round trip from Hong Kong.

Note : We do not cover any travel to Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea, the Crimea region, Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) Region or Luhansk People’s Republic (LNR) Region.

Yes. Cover will automatically be extended up to a maximum of 10 calendar days without paying any additional premium, in the event the journey is unavoidably delayed. (e.g: Travel Delay and missed departure due to a fibular fracture, provided that insured person provides medical documentation to prove that he/she is not medically fit to travel)

In the event of any emergencies, medical incidents, or fatalities during your insured trip, please call the local emergency services number, such as 112, 999 or 911 immediately to ensure the affected insured person is promptly taken to a hospital for treatment. Additionally, please also contact the AIG Travel 24-hour emergency assistance centre at +852 3516 8699 or +60 3 2772 5603 as soon as possible, if feasible.

To ensure timely assistance, please provide the following information to TravelGuard:

  • Name, phone number, and email address of the caller 

  • Name and location of the insured person

  • Policy number 

  • Reason for assistance, including the details of the illness or accident

  • General condition or injury status 

  • Name and phone number of the attending physician

If you are unable to provide all of the above information at the time of call, please submit it as soon as possible once available. TravelGuard may ask for additional information to facilitate efficient assistance.

No, the travel insurance must cover the entire trip from the time of departure from Hong Kong.

1 February.  Also, the insurance protection will commence after the insured person passes the Hong Kong Immigration Department counter.

No.  If you travel to multiple destinations during the same trip, you can be covered under one policy. If available, please select the furthest region as listed under the area of coverage.

If the Hong Kong Security Bureau issues a “Red or Black Alert” within 7 days of your journey’s departure date or during your journey, AIG shall reimburse you in accordance with the following cover: “Journey Cancellation”, “Journey Curtailment” or “Journey Re-arrangement”.

Yes, we will reimburse you for the additional transportation costs by road, since the earthquake was a natural disaster which caused the delay or cancellation of your scheduled flight. Please ensure that you submit to us a letter from the airline to support the flight delay / cancellation.

In the event of loss, written notice of claim should be submitted to AIG Hong Kong within thirty (30) days after the occurrence, together with all relevant documents.

In order to efficiently process your claim, you should provide all supporting documents to substantiate it. Complete documentation will prevent delays in your claim’s assessment.

Upon receipt of all relevant supporting documents, we will assess your claim accordingly. The result of your claim’s submission will be sent to you shortly.

Unfortunately, the personal travel insurance product Travelwise is no longer available from AIG and cannot be renewed. 

AIG no longer operates a direct sales channel for travel insurance.
